This annual book is the bible on the subject. It generally does not have errors but on occasion will be missing some info from some manufacturers. The listing are very good and the articles are very very good. This is in educational / data book.

Editor Dan Shideler died this spring while working on this his third Gun Digest, and I am sad to see him leave the gun world early. I had the opportunity to write for Dan with another publication and he definitely had an eclectic taste in guns (to include my stuff ). I was pleased to see him succeed to the editor’s position at Gun Digest because I knew it would benefit him and the publication.

GD 2012 is unfinished work, too bad Dan couldn’t properly finish this edition. The feature articles are generally good, and the color photography is great; however, the catalog portion needs serious help to get up to date. For example I wanted to read about the H&K P30. It was missing in the 2011 book, and the 2012 book has only incomplete coverage. The Massad Ayoob feature article HK: History of Innovation was written about 2 years ago for another F+W publication and feels like it was just plugged into a hole.

With all the quibbles if you are into guns and shooting you need this book, and you will enjoy it and perhaps learn something about Dan in the reading. Rest in Peace friend!

It is sad that the Editor, a very talented and knowlegable writer himself, was only here for 3 editions, and passed prior to this edition being published. In my opinion, he brought back the classic style of gun articles, like the Gun Digests USED to have back in the day, with tons of fresh in-depth feature articles and great eye catching color photos. His first two GD’s were great, but this year, well, it is… PERFECT! Dan (along with some help from his friends, co-workers and other talented writers), created THE BEST edition thus far, and a farewell tribute to the gun culture.

As far as another reviewer complaining about clerical errors in the back catalog section; I have Gun Digests going back to 1946, and every single one has minor mistakes in the catalog section. The errors are put there on purpose, to entertain the real hardcore gun nuts, just like the hidden Bunny on the cover of Playboy. Looking for errors in the catalog section is more fun than a crossword puzzle. Only a TRUE gun crank will spot the mistakes!

I am an avid gun collector. I needed a reference book to compare prices with the items (guns) being offered for sale. This book has detailed descriptions & prices for over 110,000 items.

Just as the sales pitch says… this is a great catalog, reference, and price guide.
Easy to use. Well indexed. I recommend it highly for anyone with a need to price their gun collection.
It’s also a good guide to use when you are considering the purchase of a used firearm.

Ordered this as a gift. It was just what I wanted. My father loves it. Came in good condition and the price was great.

I purchased the 2012 Gun Digest for my husband. This has been an automatic gift for 20+ years. He finds it helpful in reviewing the latest in “gun” products. He loves the history of weapons and loading/reloading tools.

Amazon.com has been wonderful to deal with; getting prices lower than anywhere else I have found.

Just what I was looking for. Couldn’t find it on the news stands. Amazon seems have everything. The convenience of internet shopping is manifest at Amazon.

This is a good publication, but it is pretty much word for word as previous books. If you do not have a later edition, this is a must have.

My husband is getting a lot of use of this book. He looks up infoamtion for all his friends. I can’t believe how fast it was sent. I ordered it after checking with Barnes & Noble (42.50), the day before his birthday and it arrived on his birthday, and I didn’t special order it. You guys are great.

Purchased this book for my husband. Thought it was going to arrive after Christmas, but luckily received it before and was able to get it wrapped and under the tree. He has searched and researched through this guide everyday since.

I am always happy to see the latest Gun Digest and the 2012 edition is here. I am sorry to hear of the demise of Dan Shideler whose work on the 2010 and the 2011 editions returned the Gun Digest to the title of the “World’s Greatest Gun Book”. The photography again excels with the 2012 edition. I think the Gun Digest’s combination of historical, technical and anecdotal articles provides the variety necessary to appeal to the broad spectrum of gun enthusiasts in America. I found the articles on collecting to be especially interesting. There may be minor errors in the catalog section however with Internet access to any manufacturer’s website, printed catalogs are increasingly irrelevant. This 2012 edition is well worth the price.

Ordered this for Christmas and got it sooner than I expected… which was perfect as it was his Christmas gift. The price was great and everything was just as I expected.
